Holiday Background

Since August 7, 1989, National Lighthouse Day has been celebrated and where feasible Lighthouse grounds are open to the public. August 7, 1989 was the 200th anniversary of the federal Lighthouse Act that gave Congress authority over the nation’s Lighthouse. On April 28, 1988, Senator John H. Chafee from Rhode Island sponsored a joint resolution to designate August 7 as National Lighthouse Day which President Ronald Reagan signed as Public Law No. 100-622 on November 5, 1988.

  1. Hi Linda,

We love to sail on Lighthouse Cruises and a sunset cruise is the best!
A Lighthouse cruise is the easiest way to see many Lighthouses.

If you can find the time this year, a local Connecticut Lighthouse Cruise offers sea views of 11 Lighthouses.
Sunbeam Fleet has scheduled their next cruise for August 2nd, followed by Aug 14, Aug 17 and the last one is Aug 31st.

Sunbeam Fleet is located at Captain John’s Dock in Mago Point Marina, Waterford, CT (see MAP) and their Web site is http://www.sunbeamfleet.com/.

  2. I wish I had the time to go on a few of these; especially the Haunted Lighthouse Tour out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Maybe next year if I’m lucky and can actually take a day or two off …

  3. Hi Eric “SpeedyCat,”

    Thank you, Speedy!

Hopefully, there are affordable Great Lakes National Lighthouse Day events near Hollydale?
